An inductive study of the Letter to the Ephesians in eleven sessions of 75 to 90 minutes, written for a leader who is not a theologian. It opens with the long single sentence of chapter 1, where the group traces the Father, Son and Spirit shape of the blessing themselves and meets the word mystery for the first time. From there it follows Paul's prayer to its real climax, which is not Christ alone but the Church as his body; through grace, faith and the works prepared beforehand all living in one sentence; through the dividing wall pulled down so that a temple can be built on apostolic foundations with Christ as cornerstone; to Paul's own partial definition of the mystery, and the claim that God's wisdom reaches even the heavenly powers through the Church. The second half is the walk that follows the calling: unity that is visible and structured rather than an invisible sentiment, the old self put off and the new self put on like a garment, the Spirit who sealed them and can be grieved by how they speak, purity and thanksgiving flowing from identity rather than rule-keeping, the household passage read with verse 21 governing all of it and the husband's charge shaped like a crucifixion, the quiet subversion of master and slave in 6:9, and the armor that turns out to be God's own equipment handed over. On the first night each person seals a one-sentence guess at what the mystery is, and the envelopes open in Session 9.
